Yeah, my friend told me earlier today that if it has 3 red lights that they'll fix it for free. So I called and will have a working Xbox 360 within 4 weeks.

Dealing with microsoft can either be a hassel, or some sort of phone mounted portal to the wails of hell itself.
It took them three months to get my 'box back, and its not even mine! its someone elses because they "misplaced" (read as "lost") my console.
And on top of all that, the sheer number of phone calls we made to the seemingly endless chain of departments (many of which were recommended to us by other departments, only to turn out as some random call-center in malaysia!) cost a total fortune!
I would be wary friend, microsoft will ***** you over without thinking twice...unless you get lucky.

I received the box to send the Xbox 360 to microsoft today and they say it will be back within 3 weeks.
My only complaint so far is that on the label they mispelled my name putting an "S" instead of an "F"

You'll enjoy it. Halo, despite what everyone says, cannot grow old...especially online.
Im just happy that you got yours back so quickly, crypto. i guess i was just unlucky...
Have fun with your new console! (quite frankly, i think you chose right)
On a side note, my friends cosole got the red ring, an eventually he removed the faceplate to send it to microsoft...and it stared working! he put the 'plate back on, and it didnt work! he now simply uses the controller.
